Zermatt and its ski area
This destination offers activities for all seasons and enjoys nearly 300 days of sunshine per year. The famous Matterhorn gives it an international reputation, along with a guarantee of snow throughout the year. This car-free resort promises a peaceful and authentic environment.
In winter, the area is renowned for its 360 km of slopes. Its ski area is the highest in Europe, with the Klein Matterhorn reaching an altitude of 3,883 metres. For all these reasons, Zermatt was voted the best ski resort in 2020 for the third time. The resort also offers 15 km of cross-country skiing trails and a Snow Park. Thrill-seekers can indulge in freeride, heli-skiing, or paragliding, and race down the highest sledging runs in Europe at 2,813 metres.
Between spring and autumn, hikes on the three most famous peaks — Gornergrat, Matterhorn, and Rothorn — offer exceptional Alpine panoramas. The Five Lakes Trail allows visitors to admire some of the 150 lakes in the region. Summer skiing, a must-do, is unique to this resort thanks to its high altitude.

- From Bern (130 km): Follow the A6 towards Spiez, then the A8 and A9 towards Visp. Continue to Täsch, where you will leave your car before taking the train to Zermatt.
- From Zurich (200 km): Take the A1 towards Bern, then the A6 and A9 to Visp, and continue to Täsch.
- From Geneva (230 km): Take the A1 towards Lausanne, then the A9 towards Sion, continuing to Visp. From Visp, proceed to Täsch.
- Täsch Train Station (5 km): The closest station to Zermatt. Shuttle trains run every 20 minutes to reach Zermatt, a car-free village. Taxis and shuttle services are also available.
- Geneva-Cornavin Train Station (230 km): Direct train connection from Geneva with a transfer at Visp to reach Zermatt. Taxis and transport services can take you to Täsch before continuing by train to Zermatt.
- Geneva Airport (230 km): The main international airport serving Zermatt. Direct trains are available from Geneva to Visp, where a transfer is required to reach Zermatt.
- Zurich Airport (200 km): An international airport offering frequent train connections to Zermatt via Visp.
- Milan-Malpensa Airport (180 km): An airport with international flights. From Milan, rail connections and private shuttles are available to reach Zermatt.
